Something occurred on the night of the Arte Toi Art exhibition which recalled an antipodean custom: invitations for family or community gatherings are accompanied by requests for ‘ladies, a plate.’ (Ladies, bring a plate) Of course, its not just down to the ladies these days, but I was able to witness an incredible burst of creation of women working together in the kitchen to assemble food to feed the expected guests. Here was the result: a table groaning under the weight of assorted snacks and nibbles. Not surprisingly, the whole event was infused with similar heart and spirit.
