I chanced upon the new Allpress Roastery Cafe in Shoreditch last week, and enjoyed a delightful flat white from these Antipodean coffee Connoisseurs. The coffee was very good, but I was taken aback by the response when I asked about the absence of unrefined sugar, as opposed to the white sugar on offer. They suggested that this is not provided as it ‘interferes with the taste of the coffee.’ True, I’m not a big fan of refined sugar, but this sounds like a load of pretentious bollocks to me. A lovely place to enjoy a coffee, newspaper or a chat, by the by.
Hi Kevin, it’s true there does seem to be a lot of PB (pretentious bollocks) surrounding coffee culture!
