Perivolakia Supper

An evening visit to a small taverna in Perivolakia, a remote mountain village in Eastern Crete. Hosted by a local Greek couple, we were served up delicious home-cooked food: most produce came from their own garden, including the chicken! Dishes included a Chicken Stew; Baked Aubergine with Onions & Tomatoes; Wild Artichoke with Peas and a creamy local Goats Cheese. It’s the first time I can recall the host coming to us mid-meal, and excusing himself to go and have a bath. Just delightful.
