A taste of Penang

Nicky, Teia and I took a trip to Penang earlier this year, to visit Nicky’s Mum, soak up the sunshine and of course sample some of the renowned Malaysian cuisine. To follow is a small taste of what we enjoyed, ranging from Ursula Gray’s homecooked Won Ton Chicken Noodle Soup…

…to an array of low-cost dishes we ate from a hawker stall at Long Beach, Batu Feringhi. These included a local seafood soup, grilled ‘Big Prawns’ and the standout for me: grilled Stingray. An exquisite fish which (not surprisingly) is similar in taste to Skate, but has a fleshy consistency similar to Monkfish. To finish, heart-shaped deep fried icecream.
