I recommend seeing the documentary Inside Job. It sheds some light on the nature of the current economic system. A place where the exhiliration of making money becomes the guiding light. Where personal responsibility is lost within the protection provided by the corporation model (hence ‘limited liability’ leads to precisely that: no sense of personally responsibility or accountability. A powerlessness pervades, because ‘this is how it work and everyone else is doing it, why shouldn’t I?’ Individuals are rewarded (in bonuses) for being good at what they do, finding creative ways to make money. But what satisfaction do they really get? In the film they stand accused for things they are simply obliged to do within the system they operate. It is not time to point the finger. The individuals featured are (to some extent) victims of the system. They are responsible, but not to blame. They are indicative of the greed and conflict in us all. The struggle to relate to a way of Being in the world where we can be comfortable with ‘enough,’ and a fair distribution of wealth (of all forms) for us to share, rather than simply wanting ‘more,’ indefinitely. The collapse of this system is a sign of revolution, which opens the possibility for something else to emerge which supports and nourishes us all.
